Heading Back to Uganda (And kind of terrified!)

I booked my ticket last night to go to Uganda for A MONTH starting in mid-November.  In addition to seeing my old students and fellow teachers, there are a bunch of projects that I really want to work on, like:

  • building a stationary bike for the visually impaired students to ride for exercise (this was Odoch’s idea)
    • and attaching a generator so it can charge a cell phone (this is my addition)
  • organizing a skills training for disabled members of the community in Atiak (this is Alfred’s idea)
  • working with community members to construct and distribute solar cookers (I don’t know if this will catch on, but it’s worth a try!)

So I’m super excited, but also kind of terrified to be doing this before I have a job lined up for January.  But I called my brother and asked for advice and he said “In 15 years, will you say ‘I’m so glad I worked that job for an extra month’ or ‘I’m so glad I spent that month in Uganda’?”  I got off the phone and bought my ticket!
